Basically, each of the Circle has A.D.D.I.E five phases as well, but the whole design is like a rolling wheel, it's moving! Moving forward towards the perfect endless end. Why is it endless? Because things are changing, and the needs/demands from the learners are changing, too. Thus, as time passes, IDers need to revise the design again and again and agin... forever to meet the learners' needs.
However, you noticed that the circles become smaller and smaller? That indicates that the design is getting closer and closer to the perfect state, and is being revised less and less than the very first begining.
The straight line going thru the circles represents EVALUATION. It starts from the first point where Analysis happens, and ends at the last point where Implementation finishes. (But, of course, it's still moving. )
Excuse my poor drawing skills, I draw a pretty picture using my thoughts in my head, but when being transferred to this dimension by using my mouse, it's totaly another story then. //BANG
I like it- the mouse drawing just makes the process look imperfect- which it is.

ReplyDeleteI, too, believe ADDIE is continuous cycle always culminating with assessment, then beginning or reverting to a previous step, progressing, and assessing again. Truly, it does continue, but as you noted in your drawing, the process becomes more succinct the closer you get to a goal or objective. One of my favorite sayings is, "Continuous Improvement" because in my mind there is always something new to learn, another perspective to consider, and increased knowledge which can make a process or way of doing something better. Evolvement is important to recognize as you proceed through the ADDIE process. What worked even three weeks ago, may not work at present, or will need to be revised in the future as society progresses, learning is obtained, etc. I do believe there are standards in our lives that do not have the same fluidity, however, ADDIE is what I call a "fluid structure." So, Claire, I applaud and understand your visual representation.
ReplyDeleteI really like this. I think it's better that the spirals aren't precise. It is a better representation of the fluid nature of sovling real problems. Multimedia bonus for pictures and text!
